From: "Michael Kofler"To: Subject: new Linux book: 'best of operating system 98' Date: Tue, 31 Aug 1999 13:58:51 +0200 Addison Wesley has just published the 2nd edition of my book Linux -- Installation, Configuration, Use The 1st edition got some praise. Amazon.com award it with 'Best of Operating Systems 98'. The 2nd ed is actually a translation of the 4th german edition, which has been the nr. 1 german computer book for almost half a year now (according to a top 10 list published by Chip, a large german computer magazine). The book gives an introduction to Linux. It explains lots of configuration details in a way the reader does not only know how, but also why to do it. The book is almost distribution independent. Distribution specific information for RedHat 6.0, SuSE 6.1 and Debian 2.1 is given in appendices. Further topics are internet (from the client's point of view, e.g. PPP, WWW, ftp, mail, news etc., but not server configuration) and applications (separate chapters on KDE, GNOME, Gimp, LyX, LaTeX, Emacs). The book comes with two CD ROMs containing RedHat 6.0. 780 pages. More title information can be found here (this should be one line): http://cseng.aw.com/bookpage.taf?ISBN=0-201-59628-8&ptype=0&catid=&navmin=&c type=justpub&catpage=&seriesid= And here: http://www.addison-wesley.de/Service/Kofler/ehome.html Best wishes, Michael Kofler
