TECH SOFT AMERICA ANNOUNCES SUPPORT FOR LINUX OPERATING SYSTEM IN HOOPS® 3D GRAPHICS SYSTEM

Alameda, CA – September 3, 1999 - Tech Soft America (TSA), developer of the popular HOOPS 3D Graphics System today announced support for the Linux Operating System LIBC6 in their 4.5 release. This announcement further expands HOOPS’ already extensive platform coverage and will enable high-end 3D applications to be built for Linux using HOOPS - a robust graphics development component with a proven track record in the Scientific Visualization, CAD/CAM/CAE, GIS, and Geophysical application markets.

Linux is an operating system that brings Unix-like scalability, efficiency and reliability to PC’s. Over the past three years Linux has seen dramatic growth, with recent strong inroads into corporate installations. Linux is particularly popular among former Unix Workstation users who are now migrating to PC’s and are looking for the power and stability of the Unix operating systems.

HOOPS is graphics subsystem component that delivers advanced graphics performance and functionality in applications from companies such as Parametric Technology Corp (PTC), SDRC, Mechanical Dynamics, MicroCADAM, Tecnomatix, Fluent, ITI, ANSYS/Centric, Pam Systems, Minitab, and over 150 other organizations worldwide. In addition to Linux, HOOPS supports Windows 95/98/NT, Dec Alpha, HPUX, IBM AIX, SGI IRIX, SUN SOLARIS, as well as numerous other platforms through obfuscated source code.

Haavard Nord, CEO of Troll Tech AS commented, “Qt, our cross-platform UI tool has been successfully used on the Linux platform for some time and we are pleased to see other tool providers moving toward Linux as well. The Linux development community will certainly be excited about this announcement because for the first time there is a high-level, market-proven tool for delivering advanced graphics.”

Jim Merry, Director of Marketing for TSA states, “Developers have always been attracted to the cross-platform nature of HOOPS and we are pleased to continue our tradition of helping our customers run their HOOPS-based applications everywhere.  Tech Soft America is at the forefront of providing advanced development components for Linux, and we look forward to enabling truly advanced graphics applications for the engineering marketplace on that platform.”

“We have been keeping an eye on the rapid growth of Linux for a couple of years. As Linux has continued to see wider acceptance in corporate installations it was only natural for us to provide HOOPS on this platform. We have customers who are beginning to explore Linux versions of their applications and it is always our intention to be one step ahead of their needs”, said Rob Mazeffa, Director of Engineering for TSA.
