Today Total Impact announced that it will integrate its TotalMP technology with IBM’s PowerPC Open Platform (POP) motherboard to form the most versatile PowerPC based Linux system available. The TotalMP Linux system is a module design that will allow users to upgrade to more processors as needed. The base model will include 5 PowerPC processors and will be scalable to 13 processors in a single desktop system. Additional processors can be added via a passive backplane allowing servers to scale to 100’s of processors. "IBM’s reference design allows us the ability to integrate our multiprocessor technology into the motherboard design as well as add support for the G4 microprocessor" said Brad Nizdil, Total Impact’s president. "We have the have the multiprocessor expertise and are currently running a 128 processor system under the MacOS" he added Total Impacts expects the systems to be available in the first quarter of next year.
