KeyLabs' compatibility testing showed the SLX2020, the first of Motorola's recently announced SLX Series of network appliances, to be compatible with Caldera System's OpenLinux 2.2 and 2.3, Red Hat 6.0, SuSE Linux 6.0 and TurboLinux 3.0.1. The Motorola SLX2020 network appliance is designed to power Internet networking applications such as web access, web security, web caching, and virtual private networks (VPNs). According to KeyLabs, the SLX2020 passed every "Linux-Tested" compatibility test it was put through, from keyboard, adapter, kernel and port compatibility to CD-ROM installation, heavy disk I/O and network functionality testing. "Linux-Tested" is an open test program that affords both hardware vendors and IT departments the opportunity to test and verify hardware compatibility across multiple Linux distributions. "We're excited to announce Motorola's successful completion of a KeyLabs' 'Linux-Tested' network server program test," said Kerry Roberts, KeyLabs' "Linux-Tested" program's Lead Test Engineer. "Passing this test lets the telecom industry know that the SLX2020 is ready for installation with the various Linux distributions." Noel Lesniak, Motorola Computer Group's business manager, Linux telecom platforms, said, "KeyLabs' independent Linux-compatibility testing of the SLX2020 network appliance verifies its compatibility with leading Linux distributions, helping to assure that our telecom OEMs will be able to get to market quickly with a low-cost Linux-based Internet connectivity solution. We're very pleased with the results of these tests." The SLX Series is designed for telecom OEMs building networking solutions for the growing number of Internet service providers (ISPs), government and business organizations, workgroups and telecommuters requiring cost-effective access to the Internet. It enables OEMs who are providing these networking solutions to deliver a low-cost, easy-to-use, reliable and secure Internet connectivity. With the configuration flexibility of the SLX, Motorola will provide OEM-specific configurations of the platform to help meet OEM's unique product and market needs.
