CRYPTOCard Makes Strong Authentication Simple and Affordable for Red Hat
Linux 6.1 Users

CRYPTOCard's CRYPTOAdmin, Development Kit, and Set of Tokens
Now Included on Red Hat Linux 6.1 Companion CD

KANATA, ONTARIO and DURHAM, NC, October 4, 1999 - CRYPTOCard and Red Hat ®,
Inc. today announced the shipping of CRYPTOCard's CRYPTOAdmin(TM) 4.0
authentication server with the application CD that ships with Red Hat Linux
6.1. With this solution, Red Hat customers can affordably build
token-based authentication into VPNs, firewalls, and secure extranets to
effectively guard against network intrusion. Today's announcement of a
free upgrade to strong authentication - for ten users to start - should
boost industry momentum for hosting security servers on Red Hat Linux.

"CRYPTOCard is a company based on open development and industry standards,"
says Dr. Tony Walker, CRYPTOCard's vice president of development. "We
expect that the number of companies choosing to move their security servers
onto Red Hat Linux will increase dramatically in the near term. Now that
one of the world's leading authentication servers ships with Red Hat Linux
6.1, the advantages for doing so have never been greater."

Linux developers often design their own firewalls, VPNs, and secure
extranets based on protocols, such as Secure Shell (SSH). SSH is a
program used to log onto another computer over a network. It incorporates
encryption and simple authentication. With CRYPTOAdmin and the
accompanying API toolkit, developers can now integrate CRYPTOCard's strong
authentication technology directly into these security servers. Once
integrated, CRYPTOAdmin handles access to and management of the token user
database. The toolkit, CRYPTOKit(TM), also includes an API for embedding
an automated software token that simply "pops up" - on web pages or while
connecting to a VPN - to make strong authentication as easy to use as
static passwords.

As an RPM file, CRYPTOAdmin is easily installed so users can be up and
running with the strong authentication system very quickly. CRYPTOAdmin's
client-server architecture allows companies to centralize authentication
using de-centralized administration. Included with CRYPTOAdmin 4.0 and
CRYPTOKit, CRYPTOCard has made available five software tokens and licenses
for five RB-1 hardware tokens, which customers must request before June 30,
2000. Customers should contact CRYPTOCard to purchase additional tokens.

CRYPTOAdmin 4.0 is the platform for the company's array of tokens: the
RB-1 portable card, the ST-1 (client-server) and AT-1 (web browser) 100%
Pure Java(TM) tokens and the CT-1 command line virtual token. CRYPTOCard
tokens generate and display a one-time password through an
event-synchronous method of authentication called QuickLog(TM). Based on
the world standard Data Encryption Standard (DES) algorithm, the QuickLog
method provides users with a unique new password for each logon attempt.
There is no annual license or maintenance fee for CRYPTOAdmin 4.0 or
CRYPTOCard tokens. CRYPTOCard tokens do not expire and, therefore, need be
deployed only once.

The strong authentication system is based on two-factor authentication.
Users must possess the token as well as its activation code - a username
and PIN, similar to a bank card. With this, organizations no longer have
to reassign passwords or debate password complexity standards with users.
Moreover, corporate exposure due to stolen, guessed, or inappropriately
shared passwords becomes a thing of the past.
