Greetings!

While I've been busy Y2K-fixing some of
our old Unix servers, the Midgard project
has still been advancing in a very nice
pace. The amount of interesting threads
on the mailing list has been increasing,
as has the number of people contributing
to Midgard one way or another.

The last two weeks have been a bit slow
on news as people have been busy working
on Midgard 2 and other related projects.
However, there are still some things to
mention here.

Current versions:
	Stable: 1.2.5 (Mad King)

Requirements for Midgard 2 release

There has been some discussion on what
features will need to be included in
the first actual Midgard 2 release.

Mostly this will include the major
features we've talked about - ODBC
support, packaging and better access
control. However, it is also viewed
as very important to have at least
some actual documentation available
at that point.

This discussion is now of some
importance as the Midgard 2 core
will be hitting alpha soon. More
information on how we view the
features in Midgard 2 can be found
from the mailing list archives:

Midgard and Oracle

While everybody is waiting eagerly
for the Midgard 2 release, it seems
that we might still see Oracle
support in the Midgard 1.x architecture.

Jean-Pierre Arneodo from Initiative
Internet has announced that they have
a team working on this and plan to
release the new interface under GPL.

If you are interested in the project,
please contact Jean-Pierre directly.

Russian Midgard uploaded

Alexander Bokovoy's Russian Midgard
package has been uploaded to the
download area of Midgard's site. It
is also now an official part of the
Midgard releases.

The package also includes some fixes
to the Admin site that have to do
with using Admin site on a prefixed
Midgard host (ie. a host that resides
in a subdirectory of another site).

Future developments of Russian Midgard
and other things related to i18n will
now take place in Midgard's CVS
repository.
