Subject: [linux-usb] [announce] USB maintainer/POC

Hi,

Linus asked for a central Linux-USB maintainer or
Point of Contact (POC) for all USB patches.
Four of us from the linux-usb mailing list volunteered
for the position. This is to announce that I am now
the maintainer for Linux-USB. This means that all
Linux-USB patches should be sent to me and I will
accept or reject them and forward the accepted ones
to Linus. Rejections will be explained.

Everyone who is interested in the success of Linux
and Linux-USB still has a role in reviewing and/or
testing patch submittals and helping to decide
whether they should be accepted in the Linux kernel.
Please don't slack off any with such help.

I look forward to working with all of you on Linux-USB.

The immediate priorities agreed to by the 4 volunteers are:

  * Get the HID driver into the kernel.
  * Get the URB interface into the kernel.
    - The UHCI driver will need an URB interface.
    - OHCI-HCD will become the useful OHCI driver since it
has been modified for URB support (and may be
      renamed to OHCI).

Greg Smith wrote this draft of the POC job description (some of
this is hopefully common sense but is good to document).
Thanks Greg.

 - Collects patches and sends them on to Linus. Patches not sent
directly to you but posted to the list can be applied at your
discretion. [I would probably ask the author about it.]
 - Make your job easier; if it doesn't apply relatively cleanly to
your tree and you don't have time to merge it yourself, reject it
and tell the author that they need an updated tree (if they can't do
that; they should ask someone on the list to help them out porting
   it to a current tree).
 - If it looks good but is out of your area of expertise, ask whoever
   should know for their opinion.
 - Responds to all patches with a status (applied or not, and why not).
 - If you create a patch yourself, post it to the list first before
sending it to Linus if it touches areas you're not 100% familiar
   with.
 - Coordinate major patches (e.g., moving to the URB interface).
 - The POC is -not- expected to test all patches him/her/itself.

I will add:
 - The POC does not control resources or schedules.

If any of you would like to suggest additions or changes
to this POC job description, please let us know at linux-usb@suse.com .

Thanks,
Randy
