The new management team indicates SuSE's strategic focus on marketing communication and support in U.S. software sales and services and is in keeping with the recent expansion of the SuSE board of directors (13 Jan '00). The U.S. management team now includes Dirk Hohndel, Chief Technology Officer (worldwide); Stefan Wintermeyer, Director of Worldwide Support; Chris N. Simmons, VP, Marketing and Sales; and Jan Fuxell, Director of U.S. Operations. "This team was selected specifically to ensure our continued success in the USA," said Roland Dyroff, CEO of SuSE Linux AG. "Their mission is to continue to demonstrate our presence and technical superiority in this critical market." "We will be increasing the capacity of our U.S. technical support and professional service staff and, of course, expanding our marketing and sales activities," said Stefan Wintermeyer. Wintermeyer has been leading SuSE's high quality technical support operations is responsible for the 1999 expansion to 7 sales support and distribution centers for SuSE worldwide, including the recently announced center in Bremen, Germany (17 Jan '00). Marc Torres, who led the U.S. operations for the past year, is leaving to pursue new challenges. During Torres' tenure, he grew the U.S. organization 200% and achieved a 350% U.S. sales increase. Dirk Hohndel said "Because of Marc's contributions to the development of our U.S. subsidiary, as well as his speaking engagements and participation in developer conferences, SuSE elevated its presence within the U.S. market and demonstrated our technical superiority. Hohndel has been VP of Strategic Development until his recent appointment as CTO. He has a strong background in IT consulting and has been leading SuSE's consulting unit in Frankfurt. His previous enterprise sector experience includes AIB Software Corporation, PLATINUM Technology, and Deutsche Bank. Hohndel is Vice President of the XFree86 project, a technical milestone for Linux development. Chris N. Simmons, who has been leading SuSE U.S. marketing for the past year, has 17 years of high tech industry experience in both Asia and North America in the areas of management, international business, and marketing. She holds an MBA in International Business & Marketing. Jan Fuxell, who has been with SuSE U.S. since its inception, has been an integral part of its operation, responsible for financial management, legal, and human resource management.
