* The winners in each category of the design competition have been invited
to present their designs at the 2nd Annual Open Source Convention in
Monterey, CA, in July. For more information, see:

              http://conferences.oreilly.com/oscon2000/

* Additional competition prizes have been donated by O'Reilly &
Associates, Red Hat, and Addison-Wesley Longman.

* The lead editorial in the March 2000 issue of "Doctor Dobb's Journal"
mentions the project, as does the Software Engineering Institute's
  March 2000 news bulletin.

* Stephen Lee sent a message analyzing the shortcomings of existing
software tools based on his experience running the Blanca project at
Los Alamos. It is on-line at:

  http://www.software-carpentry.com/extern/lee-blanca-experiences.html

* Some stories about typical scientific programming practices are also
  available at:

  http://www.software-carpentry.com/extern/cse-wilson.html#scenarios

* The web site has a new look --- thanks to Steve Spicklemire, Jackie
Siddall, and the folks at CodeSourcery LLC for all their efforts.
  Check it out at:

                  http://www.software-carpentry.com

The new material includes more resources for entrants in each category.

* We have now received notices from 29 separate individuals and groups in
the U.S., the U.K., Canada, Australia, Sweden, India, Austria, and
Turkey, who intend to submit a total of 42 entries between them. Keep
  'em coming!
