Subject: [linux-usb] Slashdot Beanie award update (take 3)

Hi,

I am proceeding with the suggestion to split the
$10,000 award evenly between the previously-mentioned
options B and D since there was such overwhelming
support for these 2 options and the split.

B. Accept the award and use it to purchase USB or other
hardware/software for Linux-USB development on an
as-needed basis (using a "purchase request committee").
This could include USB 2.0 adapters/devices later on,
or even RAM, disk drives, etc., if a developer needed
replacements or additions and we agreed that it was
    qualified and deserving.

This could be done thru LI in about 2 months time.

D. Have checks written to N Linux-USB developers
in the amount of US$5,000 / N, and each person who
receives it would be personally responsible for any
    tax consequences of it.

I am already having discussions with Linux International
about this and Andover.net (the big check writer) is
also aware of our plans.

We need either 2 committees (teams) or an ad hoc form of
deciding (determining):

a. when to award purchase requests, and
b. who to award portions of US$5,000 to.

I would feel comfortable with the purchase request decisions
being made ad hoc (online, linux-usb mailing list) if that's
easier. Also, this decision can wait a little while.

I would like help with deciding who to award portions of the $5K
to. To me, this should go to linux-usb project contributors who
have made obvious significant contributions to the project.
However, I want to make these awards evenly (A doesn't get 2X as
much as B). I want to do this as soon as the check gets to LI
(assuming that's where it goes).

I will either take email suggestions for who receives portions
of the cash (actually a check) award (and I would handle the
complete list), or I am willing to set up a small temporary
team of people to make up this list.

Please give your opinions about how to handle this (or nominate
persons to receive the awards).

Thanks,
Randy
