I have some sad news and a request. I feel that I can no longer maintain the linux-access mailing list and web pages. At lease not the way they should be maintained (not that I've been able to do a great job for the last year anyway). There are several reasons for this: * I am no longer going to school at the University of Utah * I no longer work for the Center for Disability Services at the University of Utah. * I have no time to work on the site. * Since leaving the U, the Student Services' IT team (who are Microsoft advocates) have been pushing to remove all Linux from the Student Services Department. I have no control over this. Now, the list hasn't been all that active, but there are plenty of people still subscribing. I get one or two subscription notices every week. Recently, there have been only one or two posts/month. There are probably several reasons for the inactivity of the list. First, I haven't been actively updating the site and second there is at lease one other very good list (blinux) and probably others too that fulfill a similar purpose. This certainly is not a bad thing. As long as there are resources to fill people's needs then we are all headed in the right direction. For the reasons listed above, I feel that we have these choices: * Move the list. * Combine the list with an existing list of similar purpose * Disband the list * Other??? <market-speak> The linux-access list has a nice "branding". It has a name that I feel has potential. People know exactly what the list is about and it also directly associates it with Linux </market-speak> I would hope that any solution we find incorperates the name however, this is not a requirement. In order to maintain neutrality, I would like to see the list moved into control of another institute of higher learning or non-profit organization. The linux-access site provides three services: * linux-access mailing list * web site * FTP site (contains a mirror of blinux FTP site). I would hope that all services be duplicated (in purpouse) by the new maintainers or at least combined with existing services in the event that a "merger" takes place with and existing service. I'd like to see someone take over that is really going to be active in creating and maintaining the web and FTP sites. That is something which I have not been able to do for quite a while due to school schedules and more recently, my absence from the center. So, I'd like to say "So long and thanks for all the fish". It's been a great experience. I appreciate all the help I have received through the years. I hope that this will continue. I welcome all suggestions and comments (either on this list or in personal email). Thank you. -- Marc Christensen | Check out the linux-access pages.
