RON's Datacom, Beijing, announces that Mr Hong Feng has
been chosen as its new Executive Director. In his previous position,
Mr. Hong Feng was Chief Editor of O'Reilly Beijing. O'Reilly is the
worlds
foremost publisher of Open Source Books. In this capacity, Mr. Hong Feng
has transformed O'Reilly Beijing from very humble beginnings to one of
the successful foreign companies in China. He has at the same time
been one of the strongest promoters of the Open Sources philosophy in
China.

Mr, Hong Feng has also for some time been an independent consultant with
the Chinese Government which recently surprised the world by
adopting a far reaching OpenSource policy. In his new job,
Mr. Hong Feng will manage a company which he already managed
briefly in 1995 - until he was invited to work as Chief Editor
of O'Reilly Beijing - and which has been selling and maintaining
Unix based computer systems, as well as promoting Open Sources
solutions for industry and education.

Mr Hong Feng believes that China will experience very
substantial growth rates in virtually all fields connected
with IT and plans to position RON's Datacom favorably to
ride on the crest of the coming growth wave.

"China has presently more computer science students than any other
nation
in the world, including the US, and it also has the largest
number of cell phones world wide. There is no doubt that China
will play an increasingly important role as a user and supplier
of all kinds of high tech appliances", he says. But he also
cautions that "...there are still many barriers to overcome
since due to historical reasons, China has not yet established
well-defined market mechanisms for the IT industry - and the rules for
the game have not yet been made".

In his private life Mr Hong Feng enjoys nature, poems,
history, guitar music, chess, and also works on a biography
of his friend Richard Stallman. Mr. Hong Feng can be contacted
