Subject: Midgard 1.4-beta3 released
To: midgard@greywolves.org, lwn@lwn.net, marty@linuxtoday.com,

The third beta release for 1.4 series of Midgard is now
available for download from The Midgard Project's Web site.
This new test version builds up on the successful 1.2.6-beta2
release by adding another load of frequently requested new
features. It is also another step in the way for creating
a new stable version of Midgard to replace the 1.2.5
distribution released in November 1999.

We hope that Midgard 1.4-beta3 will be useful for your
needs and are waiting your responses in any cases, be
it either success stories or bug notifications, or feature
requests. Midgard is our common world of Open Software,
let's build it together!

Changes in this release:

-SiteGroup virtual database environment enables multiple
non-related sites to be served from a single Midgard
database without being able to access the resources of
other sites. This makes Midgard much more attractive
choice for ISPs and hosting providers

-Calendaring support enables group calendars and other
event-related systems to be developed on Midgard

-More generalized database format for accommodating
larger number of records in a single database. Also,
this should make porting Midgard to other databases
 much easier

-OOP-friendly additions to Midgard data handling.
Developers should now be able to create applications
that modify contents of the Midgard database more
 easily

-Admin site has been enhanced and contains many
bug and usability fixes, especially to content
 and layout management

-The copyrights of the Midgard core libraries are
now managed by The Midgard Project Ry, a nonprofit
 organization founded in Helsinki, Finland
