The Symposium will be hosted at the Ottawa Congress Centre to accommodate the increasing demand for high-end technical Linux development conferences. Our sponsors run the full range of businesses with strong interests in the development and advancement of the Linux operating system. This year, our major supporters include such notables as Corel (TSE:COR), Linuxcare Inc., Nortel Networks (TSE:NT), Rebel.Com, Red Hat (NASDAQ:RHAT), VA Linux Systems, Zero-Knowledge Systems, Achilles, and Helixcode Inc. All of our sponsors are involved in Linux development and are supporting the users right to choice in the operating system marketplace. The 1999 Symposium was a resounding success with rave reviews from attendees and sponsors. We hope to continue this success for 2000. Despite a 50% increase in space, we expect to fill our seats well in advance. Our line-up of speakers for this year has grown to over 33 speakers, adding many leading developers from all around the world including our share of local Canadian talent. The strong international nature of the event helps to bring together the dramatically diverse Linux development community. Our keynote speaker this year is David S. Miller, one of the most innovative and prolific of the core Linux developers. Our 1999 keynote speaker, Alan Cox will also be returning to present a technical paper. The Linux project was originally started by a 3rd year University student at the University of Helsinki, Finland in 1991. With the help of the Internet, Linux quickly took on a life of its own; now after the contributions of hundreds of developers around the world, Linux is running on over 20 million computer systems. -- Andrew J.
