Linbox will use these funds to develop its range of professional services to schools, small organisations and corporate networks looking for an affordable, easy-to-install, easy-to-maintain network computing solution that is fully compatible with legacy applications and operating systems. Linbox Network Architecture is an open approach to Linux Network Computing based on diskless standard computers on the desktop side (such as the Linbox Net Station), and full featured servers (such as the Linbox Net Server). "The Linbox Network Architecture allows users and systems integrators to bring the power of Linux to the desktop at minimal costs while still preserving user investments in Windows or MacOS software," said Jean Pierre Laisné, CEO of Linbox. "Diskless Linbox Net Stations can be set up in a matter of minutes by users with no previous skills in the Linux environment and require no maintenance." "We are really excited by this investment in Linbox," said Chahram Becharat, Group Managing Director of Europ@Web. "The market out there is looking for Linux-based thin technologies for desktop and servers that are easy to use, easy to install and easy to maintain yet fully compatible with a legacy environment. Linbox provides the market with desktop and server appliances which are truly based on open source standards. Linbox systems bridge the gap between legacy technologies and reliable operating systems such as Linux. We were really impressed by Linbox technology and implementation capabilities." "Linbox not only provides plug-and-forget appliances for the desktop and the network infrastructure. It has also succeeded in plugging a gap in the marketplace by providing the missing tools that allow the seamless implementation, in a matter of minutes, of Linux-based production servers in large networks. For example, Linbox systems are at the heart of a system linking 250 insurance offices world-wide, saving their customers time, effort and budget," said Thierry Letailleur, CEO of Financière de Brienne. "This investment enables Linbox to bring to market the next stage of its business plan and provide industry-strength quality assurance and develop wide-ranging partnerships," said Jean-Pierre Laisné. "We are pleased to welcome our investors as real partners. Building on its existing partnership with SuSE and Mandrake to develop the Linbox Network Architecture, Linbox welcomes new partners to leverage the power of free / open source software, to share the code, to accelerate technology transfers and to provide customers with adequate service levels from trusted human sources."
