Project Status
==============

Normalcy Expected Soon:

OK. Just to help you get it out of your system, please insert your "Shane
!= Normal" comment here.

With that out of the way, our Internet connection is back up! A mere week
of downtime. I guess we don't have to go too far to find organizations that
could use a good network/systems management solution.

So, now that we've got our connection to the world back, we're suddenly
broadsided by a holiday (For the non-Americans, today is Independence Day.)
Of course, this means that half the team is spending the day with their
spouses (who are on paid holiday) and the other half of is trying to catch
up from being out last week. But beginning tomorrow, we expect to see
everybody around, and continue the progress that was made last week.

Presentations On-line:

This earlier promised addition to the web site is temporarily postponed due
to a major site overhaul, which will hopefully be announced very soon.

The new site will include a section with our previous presentations,
including those presented at various user groups and conferences.

Bugzilla Reminder:

I'm still getting plenty of bug reports as direct email to me. Please give
Bugzilla a spin and enter your reports directly there.

Also, for the newbies, the downloadable Bluebird.jar file is NOT a fully
functional network management app, yet... If you try to make it work like
one, you'll not only be disappointed, but you'll probably get some errors as
well. The absence of underlying components has a tendency to do things like
that.

Coding Projects Underway:

  - Event Subsystem -- Underway. Watch the "events" mailing list for
    details/comments/updates from Eventmeister Rick.
  - Event Correlation -- Spec is being developed. Encouraging words from
    our correlation know-it-all say that our engine will kick ass and take
    names.
  - capsd -- Underway. Sowmya's got this baby writing to the DB. Woo-hoo!

===================
Look out, Monterey!
===================

Next week is O'Reilly's Open Source Software Convention. We were asleep at
the wheel when it came time to do anything to make our involvement official,
so instead, I'll be wandering the halls extolling the virtues of OpenNMS and
the Bluebird Project.

If you're in the Monterey area (Silicon Valley's close enough) and would
like a speaker for your group next week, I work cheap. Or if you're going
to the convention as well, drop me a line so we can hook up. And if you
live near there and have a floor for me to crash on...

Upcoming Road Show Destinations
===============================

   "Let's hit the f'n road" - Frank Booth, in Blue Velvet (1986)

Disturbing quotes from disturbing movies aside, we're packing in the travel
through the end of the year. Here are some of the highlights:

 - TriLUG (Research Triangle Park LUG), July 13. http://www.trilug.org
 - Open Source Software Conference, July 17-20.
http://conferences.oreilly.com
 - Somewhere in Chicagoland? September 11? More details on this later.
 - Linux World Expo, Frankfurt, Germany. October 6.
http://linuxworldexpo.de
 - ALS, Atlanta, GA.  October 10-14.  http://www.linuxshowcase.org
 - SIGUCCS, Richmond, VA. Oct 29 - Nov 1.  http://www.udel.edu/siguccs2000
 - LISA, New Orleans, LA. Dec 3-8. http://www.usenix.org/events/lisa2000
 - CMG, Orlando, FL.  Dec 10-15.  http://www.cmg.org/conference/cmg2000.html

If any of these places are local and you'd like to tie in another
presentation with our existing trip, please contact Luke "Flipflops"
Rindfuss at luke@opennms.org. He schedules stuff like that and drinks beer
with me, when I need him to. All in all, a good guy to have around.

And until we meet again, mata aimasho (It's amazing the stuff you can cut
and paste from a web browser...),
