Date: Wed, 05 Jul 2000 02:59:01 +0200 From: Claus-Justus Heine <heine@instmath.rwth-aachen.de> Subject: [ANNOUNCE] ftape-4.03 and utilities To: linux-tape@vger.rutgers.edu (Linux Tape Mailing List) Finally, ftape-4.03 is ready. ftape-4.03 is in the main part a maintenance release which fixes various incompatibilities with newer kernels. What it is ========== ftape is the floppy tape device driver for Linux. News ==== -- Make sure the whole stuff compiles with kernels up to 2.4.0 -- Builtin ISAPnP support with kernels which support it (i.e. >= 2.3.46) -- `devfs' support for kernels which support it. -- The "raw" ftape devices have vanished, but still are recognised for compatibility. Instead, a new ioctl "MTIOCFTMODE" has been introduced to switch the driver to and from "raw" mode. -- Change the format API slightly so that the format filler byte can be specified. -- Fix the "mysteriously erasing header segments on Ditto 2GB tape drives" bug. -- change the MTFSR/BSR/SEEK/TELL interface. Now blocks are counted from logical BOT, each file mark counts for one block. Thus we should be consistent with SCSI tape drives at last. -- ftape-4.02 didn't automatically reduce the data rate down to 2000Kbps with Ditto Max tape drives (the ft_fdc_rate_limit parameter did work correctly, though). Supported platforms =================== Linux/x86 Linux/alpha Maybe others.
