To: BUGTRAQ@SECURITYFOCUS.COM

There is another mailing list starting up here at SecurityFocus.com to
shore up some gaps we see via people posting questions based around
penetration testing and network auditing.

The penetration testing list is designed to allow people to converse about
professional penetration testing and general network auditing. While lists
like Vuln-Dev and Bugtraq deal with exploits and flaws in systems there
are few interactive forums to discuss actual penetration testing and
network auditing. As a result this area has become a difficult topic to
learn about outside of print media (books etc.)

Given that this is the case, this list hopes to dispel some of the
confusion and allow for intelligent discourse on the topic. The list is
not OS specific and will cater to discussion on all and any network able
devices people wish to discuss.

What is appropriate content?

- Discussion based around commercial or free tools used in penetration
testing and network auditing. This dicussion is meant to be instructive
and have value. If you dislike something, be polite about it.

- Discussion of methodology concerning network auditing and penetration
testing.

- Product/Tool announcements. Posts announcing *new* or updated products
may be made to the list as long as they are relavent to the list. These
announcements can only be *one* paragraph in length and must be factual no
nonsense posts ie. free of marketing hype. Free tools may make
announcements up to one page in length. Again, factual rant free posts are
required.

- Basic questions surrounding the above topics.

What is inappropriate content?

- Ethics or morality disussions. This list will facilitate discussions not
suited for people who do not support full disclosure. It's goal is to
provide information to people who are professionals or whose job demands
they must, break into computers. If you have a moral or ethical dillema
around this topic please do not sign up to the list.

- Flames and generally unpolite conduct. This list caters to
professionals. Keep your questions to the point and polite.
