Date: Wed, 6 Sep 2000 20:42:04 -0300 From: Sergio Bruder <bruder@conectiva.com.br> To: lwn@lwn.net Subject: Conectiva Linux 6.0 beta launched The first beta for Conectiva Linux 6.0 is out (version number: 20000906). A great way to spend the September 7th holiday (if you are in Brazil, at least) is testing it :) Incomplete list of new features: - rpm-enabled apt-get. Yes, this is Debian's apt-get. And yes, it works with rpm. This is still unstable, but you may test it now. - FHS compliancy. This beta is not fully tuned, but you'll notice many different paths and such. - gcc 2.95. 'nough said. - XFree86 4.0. - KDE2. KOffice. - KUPS and LPRng. - GRUB instead of LILO. (the installer does not support GRUB yet, but it will in a future beta.) - Lots of minor updates: termcap no longer used, ncurses5 instead of ncurses4, bash 2.04 as the default bash instead of 1.14, etc. This is a beta, and quite informal. Do not expect it to work. Bugs may be reported at http://distro.conectiva.com.br/bugzilla in either Portuguese or English. For comments about the beta, please use the beta mail list (http://distro.conectiva.com.br/lista/) The FTP server is being updated now, and the ISO images will follow shortly.
