Characters From Favorite Geek Cartoon Join Violent Deathmatch in Loki
Software's Linux Version of Quake III

The best geeks on the Internet to compete in a contest to challenge their
creative application of Loki's new Linux-based game development tools.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Friday, September 15, 2000 - It's fragtime
for the Dust Puppy.

Today kicks off the UserFriendly.org and Loki Software Quake III Arena
Contest. A leading online entertainment destination for the IT technical
community, UserFriendly.org is sponsoring this exciting contest to
showcase the creative and design skills of their legion of fans.

Contestants will create and modify "skins" and levels based on the cast
of characters from the UserFriendly.org episodic comic strip for use with
Quake III Arena, the blockbuster 3D, first-person perspective, shooter
video game developed by id Software. Skins dictate the appearance of the
player within the game environment, while the levels define the
appearance and layout of the space used by the battling players inside
the game. There will also be a bonus category for people brave enough to
venture into the realm of modeling, which is creating the figure or body
for the skins to cover.

"I am categorically terrified by what the UserFriendly.org community
might come up with," explains J.D. "Illiad" Frazer, the comic strips
creator and Founder of UserFriendly.org.

Loki Software, Inc., co-sponsor of the contest and publisher of the Linux
version of Quake III Arena, offers contestants use of their Linux SDK
toolkit, which includes the Linux port of id's Q3radiant. The Linux SDK
allows users to replace textures, shaders and entities, create and edit
maps, and even create DLLs and QVM files for mods.

"This contest is a great way to show off the work Loki is doing to
support Linux gaming," said Scott Draeker, president of Loki Software.
"This isn't just about porting games. We're bringing the entire gaming
experience to Linux. I mean, a huge part of playing id's games is the
ability to do mods, skins, maps and all the rest. And Loki's Quake SDK
makes all that possible on Linux for the very first time."

Upon conclusion of the contest on Wednesday October 11, a panel of
celebrity judges from the Linux and gaming communities will evaluate the
skins. Judges include Zoid, creator of "Capture The Flag" for Quake,
Casey of Threewave Software, and UserFriendly.org's own TikTok.

UserFriendly.org will announce the contest winners on Friday, October the
13th, during the Annual Linux Showcase in Atlanta. First place will win
two games of their choice from Loki Games, both User Friendly books
signed by Illiad, and a Dust Puppy doll (Dust Puppy is arguably the most
popular character from the UserFriendly.org comic strip). Second place
will win one game of their choice from Loki Games and a Dust Puppy doll.
Honorable mentions all win a Dust Puppy doll. For information and updates
