1. Topic:

This is an update to the previous advisory RHBA-2000:084-02 - that advisory
contained several typographical errors.

This bug fix advisory corrects the following issues in the Red Hat Linux
7.0 installer:

   - the installer would crash when doing a multi-CD install if
pre-existing partititions were specified as mount points

   - ext2 labels were not being truncated properly when written out on a
new install, causing errors when trying to mount these partitions on a
reboot

   - missing or corrupt RPMs were not clearly being reported during the
install process

2. Relevant releases/architectures:

Red Hat Linux 7.0 - i386

3. Problem description:

The installer would crash if a non-Linux partition was mounted during
the setup procedure.  This bug advisory corrects this issue.

   The installer used a truncated version of the mount point of a ext2
filesystem as its ext2 label.  This label is used to reference the
filesystem in the /etc/fstab file, which specifies filesystems to be
mounted.  The installer did not properly truncate the label to the maximum
length of 16 characters, causing the filesystem to not mount on reboot.
This bug advisory correctly truncates the label.

   This bug advisory also includes enhanced error reporting.  Specifically,
the installer detects missing or corrupt RPM packages. This should make it
easier to  diagnose problems in the installation process.

4. Solution:

Download the update disk image, then create an update diskette.  This
can be done by using the same procedure used to create a boot diskette.

Please note that you must substitute the update disk image filename for the
filename used in the example.

When booting into the anaconda installation program, type "linux updates"
at the boot prompt, followed by any other installation options which are
required (such as "expert" or "text" or "ks"). The installation process
will prompt you to insert the updates disk when it is required, and the
install will then proceed as normal.
