Synopsis: sysstat cron entry is incorrect
Advisory ID: RHBA-2000:083-01
Issue date: 2000-10-09
Updated on: 2000-10-09
Product: Red Hat Linux
Keywords: sysstat cron iostat
Cross references: N/A
---------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Topic:

sysstat, the package which provides the sar and iostat facilities, provides
an invalid crontab entry in Red Hat Linux 7.0. This causes the I/O
summaries to never get updated.

2. Relevant releases/architectures:

Red Hat Linux 7.0 - i386

3. Problem description:

sysstat is a package provided with Red Hat Linux 7.0 and later. It
provides the sar and iostat commands, which allow a system administrator to
keep tabs on a systems input/output statistics.

To generate reports of daily activity, several entries are added to the
system's crontab entry. These entries were formatted incorrectly as
shipped. These entries have been corrected.

Additionally, support for iostat's -p and -l command line arguments was
disabled. These arguments are now supported.

4. Solution:

For each RPM for your particular architecture, run:

rpm -Fvh [filename]

where filename is the name of the RPM.

5. Bug IDs fixed (http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla for more info):

16268 - iostat option -l and -p are not implemented
18212 - sar does not work from cron

6. RPMs required:

Red Hat Linux 7.0:

i386:
ftp://updates.redhat.com/7.0/i386/sysstat-3.2.4-4.i386.rpm
