SuSE Linux 7.0 rated the most standard-compliant Linux distribution

SuSE Distribution Gets Highest Score

SuSE Linux 7.0 passed 238 of the 243 tests in the Linux Standards
Board's Filesystem Hierarchy Standard (LSB-FHS2.1-1) test, making SuSE
Linux 7.0 the most standards-compliant Linux distribution tested.
Detailed results of the tests are available on
http://www.linuxbase.org/test/results/index.html.

The LSB-FHS test suite is a test program that can be run on any Linux
distribution. The goal is to test whether the distribution follows the
FHS (Filesystem Hierarchy Standard), which defines the directory
structure and the required locations of configuration files and important
binaries.

"We are extremely pleased with these results, as they confirm the technical
superiority we build into our distribution," began Volker Wiegand,
president of SuSE Inc. "SuSE supports a common set of Linux standards and we bui
ld
our distribution to comply as closely as possible to the standards set by the
LSB."
He continued, "In fact, by installing 6 more packages, we pass all but 5
tests - the very five that are currently being redefined by the FHS. SuSE is
very proud of its high level of compliance with standards."

The FHS is a part of LSB (Linux Standard Base), a joint effort to create a
standard between the various Linux distributions. SuSE is an active member
and supporter of the LSB.
