IBM Previews Online Resource for Developers in China
IBM Delivers Beta Version of developerWorks to 1 Million Chinese Developers
BEIJING, China, Oct. 30 -- IBM today made available its "beta" version of
developerWorks* China web site to the estimated 1 million Chinese-speaking
software application developers. It is IBM's first time ever to deliver the
robust, free library of information on open-standards to the Chinese market.
developerWorks provides developers in China the tools they need to build
higher quality software and enhance needed technical skills for doing business
in the global Internet economy.
As part of the worldwide community, China's developers are embracing open,
industry standards such as Linux** to avoid having any single company's
technology dominate their development choices. Like the US-hosted Web site,
developerWorks China is a fast, free resource that enables developers
worldwide to tap into a wealth of tools, code, tips, news, tutorials, and how-
to articles from IBM and third parties. developerWorks China will help
developers cut through the information clutter to do their jobs more
effectively, efficiently, and easily. The server hosting the site is being
located to Beijing to allow developers faster access from within China.
"The growth in the Chinese development community has resulted in an
increased need for educational resources. developerWorks China is ideal as it
combines IBM's technology investment and expertise with additional third party
content making it a trusted resource," said David Sung, General Manager of IBM
Software in China
IBM China encourages developers to provide feedback on the beta version
and generate discussion on how developerWorks China can become a valuable
resource for programmers in their day-to-day development work and enhancement
of technical skills. The site will focus on Java, Linux and other topics of
interest. Local Chinese material that is generated as a result will be
incorporated into global IBM developer sites to aid programmers in other
nations. The developerWorks China site will provide exclusive content from
China for developers in China.
The beta site can be viewed at: http://www.ibm.com/developerWorks/cn.
