IBM developerWorks Highlights Linux Usability

Industry expert to host a two week online forum on developerWorks

Cupertino, Calif., November 1, 2000 . . . IBM developerWorks* announced today
a two-week discussion forum on Linux usability trends from October 31 through
November 15 to help boost developers' Linux know-how.

The online forum, which takes place exclusively on developerWorks, is hosted
by Daniel Robbins, president and CEO of Gentoo Technologies, Inc.  As a Linux
expert, Robbins will make himself available to developers worldwide to discuss
coding tips for Linux.

IDC reports that Linux** accounted for 25 percent of worldwide shipments in
the server operating systems market in 1999, up from 16 percent in 1998 and 6
percent in 1997. Additionally, Linux server shipments increased 166% to 72,422
units in Q499 from Q498, representing the fastest-growing operating
environment in the server market.

Robbins will initiate the following topics:

The best Linux distribution for new users
Help desk/tech support
Status of Linux documentation
Ease of use of installation routines and customization options
General user friendliness
