Omnis Studio 3.0 now brings business solutions to the web even faster

With multi-threading, load sharing and client side methods, bringing
enterprise level business solutions to the web has never been easier.

Omnis Software has announced the release of Omnis Studio 3.0, the latest
version of their powerful and popular 4GL rapid application development
(RAD) program. The new release incorporates extensive changes to their web
server and Web ClientT technologies, significantly speeding up web-based
business applications. It also includes a range of other enhancements to
make the development experience more intuitive, easier to use, and more
powerful.

In the emerging markets of Business Intelligence Systems and Application
Service Providers, it is essential to supply solutions that work robustly
and with the minimum of perceived delay for the user. Omnis Studio 3.0 has
been evolved to specifically meet the needs of these markets. With improved
server technology and fast development times, Omnis based solutions will
allow customers the best possible browser-based application experience.

The core of Omnis Studio has been rewritten to take full advantage of
multi-threading when executing methods or directly accessing databases such
as Oracle, DB2 and Sybase. This significantly improves the efficiency with
which simultaneous users can access, use and modify the same data. Load
sharing extends this functionality across a number of servers, with Omnis
dynamically allocating the least used server as each new client accesses
the program. These two innovations create an environment where web based
applications are much closer to the traditional client/server user
experience.

The most visible aspect of the improved web functionality is the addition
of client side methods and eighteen new, web specific components to create
a richer, more responsive user interface. Client side methods mean that a
wide range of functions can be performed on the local computer, completely
eliminating the delays associated with browser-based server access. The
wide range of additional components (including clocks, sliders, picture
faders, and complex grids) will allow developers to quickly produce
sophisticated business solutions that can take full advantage of all the
innovations.

Gwyneth Gibbs, UK based President said, "The engineering team have done a
fantastic job of incorporating and exploiting technologies specifically to
make the most of the internet. This latest version of Omnis Studio will
allow an enterprise to create powerful, web based, business solutions in
even less time, confident that they will prove scalable, robust and
extendible.

"They have the added benefit of knowing that if the solution has to be
moved from a Windows server to Linux, or vice versa, this can be
accomplished in hours, not weeks or months, as there is no code to
rewrite. We believe that solutions built on this technology, which allow
customers complete control of where and how they deploy their solutions,
are essential for commercial success in an uncertain datastore and OS
world."

About Omnis Studio

Omnis Technology's flagship product, Omnis Studio is a high-performance
visual RAD tool that provides a component-based environment for building
GUI interfaces within e-commerce, database and client/server
applications. When used with the company's Web ClientT plug-in technology,
Omnis Studio allows the development of client/server relationships over the
Internet using popular web-browsers, giving fast, secure, scalable
solutions in a minimum of development time. Development and deployment of
Omnis Studio applications can occur simultaneously in Linux, Windows, and
Mac OS environments without changing the application code. This portability
is achieved because Omnis utilises a highly optimised interpreter engine to
execute the object-oriented application at runtime. Omnis Studio
applications support native data access to Oracle, Sybase, DB2/UDB,
Informix and ODBC-compliant data sources including MySQL. The Omnis Web
Client allows the developer to create client interfaces that either utilise
forms or a highly secure plug-in. Using Omnis Studio cuts application
development time by as much as 75% compared to 3GL environments (C++,
Java), while allowing the developer to use objects developed in 3GL
environments as components in Omnis applications.
