From: "Ken Pooley" <kpooley@sewanee.edu> To: "MWS" <mws@midgard-project.org> Subject: MWS, 8th of November, 2000 (#51) Date: Fri, 10 Nov 2000 15:45:21 -0600 Greetings! This is an abbreviated MWS. While the US presidential elections have provided much entertainment, and some distraction, my day job has been demanding extra attention and has kept me from my sacred editorial duties. At the same time Ron Parker and I have been working on an article, which will be first released in the MWS in the next few issues, unfortunately it has taken longer to get together than either of us thought. Contents: Editor's Note 1.4b6 Released A new beta with the first release of Repligard. Discussion Forum More Midgard information resources. VMUC becomes MOVE and is on the way Help in getting that first site up and running. ============================ 1.4b6 Released ---------------------------- A new beta of 1.4 has been released. It can be found at http://www.midgard-project.org/article/8325.html. 1.4b6 includes a change to the Midgard DB definition; some fixes to some Midgard functions and some new ties to external system libraries. 1.4b6 also includes the first, limited, release of Repligard, a database duplication utility. Repligard is still early in its development and care is suggested when using it. 1.4b6 does not include Asgard which remains, at this point a separate download. Users should expect at least one more beta to come out before the final release candidate. As always remember that beta software is intended for test purposes only and should not be relied on in a production environment. ============================ Discussion Forum ---------------------------- Jakob Nielsen has announced the publication of a Midgard Bulletin Board Forum. It is a threaded forum open to registered users. The forum can be found at: http://www.jakobnielsen.net/midgardforum/viewboard.phtml?BoardID=1. This should be an excellent addition to the current Midgard lists; links to the forum will be included on the Midgard-project site soon. ============================ VMUC becomes MOVE and is on the way ---------------------------- As a part of the development of new documentation a new demo site is in the works. VMUC is being rewritten and redesigned to give better examples of Midgard in action as well as to demonstrate the new features in 1.4. VMUC has been a great resource for those working on their first (and sometimes second) Midgard site and the new demo site should provide even more help. The new demo site will be included as part of the final 1.4 package. About Midgard Midgard 1.4 is a content publishing tool for small and medium sized sites. It is based on Apache, MySQL and PHP. The application and its documentation are licensed GPL, LGPL and GFDL. This licensing strategy guarantees that developers, webmasters, ISPs, and business managers are investing in a strategy where they're free to share solutions and participate in the application design. -> http://www.midgard-project.org ---------------------------- About MWS The Midgard Weekly Summary is a bi-weekly newsletter for the Midgard user and developer community, as well as the extended web community.
