Macro 4 launches first S/390 Output Management solution for Linux
UniQPrint gives Linux users a centralised point of control for printing

18th October 2000; Crawley, England. Macro 4, a leading independent
developer of systems management solutions, has launched its UniQPrint
solution for Linux on the S/390. UniQPrint allows users a single point of
control for cross-platform enterprise printing from an S/390 platform
running Linux. With its development, Macro 4 has added the first Output
Management solution to the list of traditional enterprise applications
available on Linux.

By running UniQPrint and Linux on the S/390 platform, users can take
advantage of the availability, scalability, performance and cost benefits of
the mainframe whilst having the flexibility to manage printing across a
distributed network.

“Already a number of major organisations have moved to the Linux platform,
and it was in response to a request from our customer base that this version
of UniQPrint was developed,” explained Charles Hayward, Product Marketing
Manager at Macro 4. “However, we believe that there will be a growth in the
number of organisations - both large and small, that will adopt Linux and
require improved Output Management services.”

“Managing hard copy and electronic document distribution on a distributed
basis is becoming increasingly challenging for most enterprises,” says Jim
Lundy, Industry Analyst with Gartner. “Distributed Output Management fills a
critical
need for organisations. Enterprises should exploit the immediate benefits
offered by the current products available.”

Macro 4 plans to continue the development of its systems management product
range for Linux. “The small footprint of this product range is an ideal
add-on to the low resource requirement of Linux,” continues Hayward. “The
integration with other Macro 4 products will be straightforward and we are
currently completing the development of Linux versions of our fax and report
distribution solutions - the objective is to provide a suite of systems
management tools for Linux.“
