                Linux-Mandrake Security Update Advisory
________________________________________________________________________

Package name: cups
Date: November 29th, 2000
Original Advisory Date: November 16th, 2000
Advisory ID: MDKSA-2000:070-1

Affected versions: 7.2
________________________________________________________________________

Problem Description:

A problem existed with previous versions of CUPS that made CUPS
printers accessible from anywhere on the internet. A bug also existed
where CUPS would broadcast to everywhere and thus keep open dial-on-
demand lines. Both problems have been addressed in this update and by
 an automatic configuration script.

Update:

Due to a problem in packaging that is not easily resolved, users will
have to manually edit the /etc/cups/cupsd.conf file and include in the
beginning of the file the following line:

    # BROADCASTING CONTROL ON

All Linux-Mandrake users using CUPS should edit this file and include
that line to properly secure CUPS. This fix will only work with
 cups-1.1.4-5.1mdk and higher.

Please verify these md5 checksums of the updates prior to upgrading to
ensure the integrity of the downloaded package. You can do this by
running the md5sum program on the downloaded package by using

If you want to upgrade manually, download the updated package from one
of our FTP server mirrors and uprade with "rpm -Fvh *.rpm".

You can download the updates directly from one of the mirror sites
listed at:

  http://www.linux-mandrake.com/en/ftp.php3.

Updated packages are available in the "updates/[ver]/RPMS/" directory.
