MEETING NOTICE
==============

  Central Ohio Linux Users Group

        Saturday, December 30th., 13:00 to 15:00 local

Meeting Presentation
====================

Last meeting of the Millenium

The main presentation: -- Meta Shell Scripting Musings

	Our own Phil Hunter will present a philospohical
overview on 'better practices', 'basic principles', and 'favorite
primitives and constructs' of shell scripting. Review Chapter 9
at  http://wks.uts.ohio-state.edu/unix_course/intro-1.html
for some flesh to go with these tasty tidbits. We'll be 'eating
a HIPO', and 'baking oatmeal cookies' in the presentation. See:
 http://www.vicksburg.com/~computer/Jan21.Program.html#Tools

And then -- Upgrades demo

	Additionally, the host 'www.colug.net' which provides the
group's webpages will be upgraded from RH 6.0 to RH 7.0 at the
meeting. This should be interesting, for the MySQL and GD packages
are rather customized, and we can anticipate breaking part of the
site. Fixing it will be fun. Bring any spare pair of 64M DIMM
sticks to donate -- the server has only 32M total presently.

Goodies

        Jim Prior has a whole bag of swag -- we'll write a shuffle CGI
routine as part of the main presentation to divvy the loot.

Stump the Chump^h^h^h^h^hExpert

	Always popular --- bring in that problem box, and it will
probably go home fixed.

	As always, and given the informal nature of the group's
`management' and the vaguries of the presenters' schedules,
the agenda and content are subject to change.

	Additionally, the _formal_ meeting ends at the stated time.
We've noticed that folks continue to stand around in the parking lot
for _hours_. We should probably adjourn to a local watering hole,
to slake thirst and sit down.

MEETING SITE:
=============

This month's meeting will be held a local hotel just north of
the former meeting site. We are being sponsored in November and
December by Collective Technologies (http://colltech.com/).

The meeting will be held at the Clarion Inn -- 7007 North High
Street, Worthington, OH -- Link of the web page.

... The group has met on the LAST Wednesday or LAST Saturday
of a month, alternating by month to allow more folks to mesh
their schedules with COLUG's. Sites and dates also depend
on facility availabity, with common-sense relocation in the
holiday season.

The webpage always has a link to a map to the upcoming meeting
site. See: http://www.colug.net/meetings.php3

Meeting Schedule
================

          The NEXT meeting is scheduled on Saturday, January 27,
2001 from 13:00 to 15:00 local -- Location is presently unknown.

	Exciting advance notice: Paul Everitt of Digital
Creations ( publishers of ZOPE ) may well be speaking at our February
2001 meeting in a joint meeting with the COZUG. Paul's pitch page
is at: http://www.digicool.com/paul/ and a statement to the Open
Source community ( http://lwn.net/2000/0601/a/zope-perl-paul.html )
says in part: "I love Python and Linux." We need to advertise this
exciting event lots ...
