This new site is dedicated to providing resources to Linux Users Groups and the Linux community, planning to offer services to assist with group management, event planning, vendor coordination, and more. "I have worked with the LUGs Resource Project since Kara started it at Linux.com. The vendor listings and LUGs database created there allowed for User Groups and Vendors to locate and communicate with one another world-wide. As an independent project, I believe more services will be more easily available and become a better resource for the Linux Community" said Jim Ray, co-founder of the Linux Demo Day project and Jabberzilla developer. The LUGs Resource Project began as a collaboration of efforts at Linux.com in early 1999. With focus of Linux.com changing to editorial, Kara Pritchard decided to start LinuxUsersGroups.org as an independent, non-vendor owned project dedicated to LUG services. "Linux User Groups encourage people with all levels of expertise to connect informally for exchange of information and ideas on a local basis. By sharing resources, geographically separated groups can now expand their collective wisdom, pool knowledge, and increase value of participation to hobbyist and corporate users alike. The impact of a site like LinuxUsersGroups.org could be tremendous in affecting collaborative development, building resources for expanding knowledge, and providing users at all levels with the information they need." says Julie Thornton, Marketing Director for Linux International and Linux Professional Institute (sponsored by Caldera, Inc.) and member of KULUA, the Kansas Unix and Linux Users Association. About LinuxUsersGroups.org LinuxUsersGroups.org was founded by Kara Pritchard (sponsored by Linuxgruven.com) as a Non-Profit service site dedicated to LUG needs. Current services include vendor liaison services, event coordination assistance, editorial coverage, free LUG banner advertising, link resources, and more. Works in progress include a LUG database and event calendar ring, presentation material resources, speaker's bureau, vendor contests, surveys, and others to be announced soon. ------ Linux is a registered trademark owned by Linus Torvalds.
