Subject: [RFC] Debian Conference 1 : starting 2 days before ?

Hello,

To summarize the problem, there are, in Europe, this summer, two major
events about the Libre software : LinuxTag in Germany, LSM in France
with the Debian Conference 1.

LSM and LinuxTag share the same passion it seems, but do not address
exactly the same goals. But the problem is that they share the very same
dates, and that letting the Debian Conference start exactly at the
beginning of the LSM will prevent people planning to attend the LinuxTag
to come, or people attending the Debian Conference, to give some days to
LinuxTag.

So, here is my proposal : hold the Debian Conference, from
July the 2nd to July the 5th, that is the very same week, but from Monday to
Thursday. The Debian Conference will start two days _before_ the
official beginning of the LSM, and people planning to attend LSM and/or
LinuxTag with Debian Conference will have a reasonable opportunity to do
it.

I first thought to begin on saturday, but it seems more sensible to
stock the European Libre Software Big Week on a single week, and it
would be far more difficult to have the staff for the rooms and the
restaurant for a supplementary week-end.

Consider this mail as a RFC/survey.

Another precision. I have proposed last year, and have said from the
beginning, that I do consider that such an event must move in order to
be held in every place where live a reasonable number of developers. This is
the second edition, and the last for me. In my mind, the principle is
the one of a kind of Olympiades of Libre Software : I will not organize
Debian Conference 2, but I'd liked to give the "Olympic fire" to the
next organizer.

Where the Debian Conference 2 will be held is your decision ;)

Cu in Bordeaux,
