Embedix SDK 1.2-J integrates support with cross-compilations, support for Hitachi SuperH® 3 and 4 RISC processors and an integrated development environment to provide developers with greater flexibility and reduced time-to-market. "The embedded device market in Japan requires tools and features provided by Embedix SDK 1.2-J to more quickly deliver devices to market, at a lower cost, with the smallest embedded software image possible," said Yoshinobu Ushiyama, CEO of Lineo Japan, Inc. "With the addition of the Hitachi SuperH processor, Lineo is making an accelerated effort to support most of the major chips and boards with Embedix SDK 1.2-J." The Embedix SDK previously supported the X86 and PowerPC processor families. Now, Lineo offers support for Hitachi SuperH 3 and 4 processors. Embedix SDK 1.2-J provides true cross-compilation which will allow for target images on the Embedix platform to be built and deployed across various processor families. Embedix SDK 1.2-J also includes the NetFront browser from ACCESS Co. Ltd., a powerful embedded Internet browser for consumer information appliances. In addition, PowerParts middleware from Metrowerks is included to provide developers with graphical user interface development capabilities. Device manufacturers will benefit from the inclusion of these because of reduced porting work required by OEM customers, accelerating their product development cycle. Metrowerks CodeWarrior Integrated Development Environment (IDE) provides an important set of tools in the development of today's applications for embedded devices. CodeWarrior combines an editor, compiler, linker and debugger into one integrated application which helps developers bring applications to market faster and at a reduced cost. One of the key strengths of Embedix SDK is the inclusion of the Target Wizard library compilation tool, an automated way to quickly and easily select all of the requirements for a target image and check for all software interdependencies. Target Wizard also helps developers quickly create the smallest possible software image for their embedded device by stripping out unneeded features and software code. By providing developers with the smallest possible software image, Embedix helps developers to create devices that require less hardware and allows them to gain greater economies of scale when producing large numbers of devices. Availability Embedix SDK 1.2-J is currently distributed through Lineo Japan's Premier Channel Partners. Contact Kanematsu Semiconductor and Dia Semicon Systems for pricing information.
