LynuxWorks' BlueCat(TM) Linux now Available for Intel(R)
                         XScale(TM) Microarchitecture

BlueCat to Ship With Intel's XScale Evaluation Kit

SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- At the Intel Developers Forum,
LynuxWorks, Inc., a provider of open source and true real-time embedded
solutions for the post-PC era, today announced the availability of its BlueCat
Linux for Intel's new XScale microarchitecture, making LynuxWorks among the
earliest providers of operating systems developed for XScale, Intel's new
processor core technology.
XScale is designed to provide high performance, low power consumption and
reduced thermal constraints for a wide range of market segments, from
battery-powered, wireless and handheld applications such as digital phones and
personal digital assistants to such Internet infrastructure applications as
network processors and intelligent I/O processors. An evaluation copy of
LynuxWorks' BlueCat will be included with Intel's shipments of the IQ80310
XScale microarchitecture evaluation platform.
"LynuxWorks made an early commitment to XScale because this efficient
technology makes sense for the growing wave of storage, networking and smart
handheld embedded Internet-capable products," said Inder Singh, CEO and
chairman of the board of LynuxWorks. "We believe Intel's XScale
microarchitecture is positioned well in this market and we are excited to be
part of this initiative."
The two companies have a strong history of working together. LynuxWorks is
a member of Intel's Applied Computing Platform Provider (ACPP) program and the
Intel Communications Fund. Intel and LynuxWorks participate in many technology
cooperation activities. Results of this cooperation include solutions and
technology initiatives targeted to the high availability requirements for
communications infrastructure providers.

    Pricing and Availability
The BlueCat Linux evaluation package will be included, at no charge, with
Intel shipments of the IQ80310 QUICKval kit in early March 2001.

    About LynuxWorks' BlueCat
LynuxWorks' BlueCat is an open-source Linux, and is available as a
complete solution for developers. In addition to a stable commercial version
of the operating system, LynuxWorks provides a complete software development
environment and tools for debugging and tuning applications. BlueCat is backed
by a variety of optional support packages offering software engineering,
technical support, consulting and professional services from LynuxWorks.

    About XScale
The first implementation of XScale processor core architecture comes in
the form of Intel's IOP310 I/O processor chipset. This two-chip solution
includes Intel's 80200 microprocessor with XScale technology and 80312 I/O
companion chip. The chipset provides full instruction set compliance with ARM
v.5TE, including support for both 16-bit Thumb instructions and integrated
digital signal processor (DSP) instructions. Intel's IQ80310 PCI evaluation
kit is based on the Intel IOP310 I/O processor chipset, is a low-cost platform
for rapid intelligent I/O software development.
