The APT (Advanced Package Tool), an automatic software upgrade tool for RPM packages. The new improvements allows APT to support RPM 4, the new version of the package management system used in most Linux distributions. In addition, this improvement yields the possible installation of optimized package versions in a given processor. Many of the existing bugs were fixed. This innovation is already available for download by all of the system users at ftp://ftp.conectiva.com/pub/conectiva/EXPERIMENTAL/apt/. About APT Conectiva Linux 6.0 is the first Linux distribution in the RPM format in which APT is included. This tool makes the platform more consistent and easy to use. A simple command performs RPM software installation with all dependences resolved. Likewise, previously installed software can be easily upgraded. In the corporate environment, software upgrades are of significant importance where security is concerned. System administrators can quickly and conveniently enhance their systems. This avoids the manual correction of security gaps that usually leave the machines vulnerable to attacks from the outside. Alfredo Kojima was the developer responsible to bring APT technology to the RPM world, and the graphical desktop Window Maker.
