Prosoft will be focusing on developing courseware to prepare for LPI exams, and continue their Certified Internet Webmaster (CIW) program. "We are pleased to support LPI's significant efforts to establish a strong vendor-neutral Linux certification program. As a charter sponsor of LPI, we recognize and support the needs for Linux training and certification among Internet professionals," said Jerry Baird, ProsoftTraining.com CEO. "We believe that support of the LPI certification complements our industry leading vendor-neutral certification for Internet professionals." ProsoftTraining.com and LPI will convert all Linux Certified Administrator (LCA) recipients' credentials to the LPI certification program, giving these recipients automatic credit toward the LPI 101 entry-level certification examination. ProsoftTraining.com will immediately retire its Linux Certified Administrator exam and the associated credential, while continuing to develop and courseware preparatory to the LPI exams. Prosoft's flagship certification program, Certified Internet Webmaster (CIW), already includes extensive material on Linux. CIW courses cover such topics as server administration, security, integration with Microsoft Windows servers, and Web site development. LPI JOB ANALYSIS SURVEY (JAS): The survey for LPI Level 2 exams is underway! We've had a great response so far, but we're still eager to hear from any senior Linux admins who haven't taken the survey yet. One lucky admin will win 2 vouchers to take the Level 2 LPI exams when the are completed, so be sure to take the survey if you haven't already. You can find the LPIC-2 survey at: http://www.lpi.org/cgi-bin/jass.py REPORT FROM THE NEW YORK LINUXWORLD EXPO - Jan 31 - Feb 2nd 2001 Julie Thornton our marketing director was at this show and reported; "The LPI booth in the was in a terrific position at the front end of .org row. We had a great deal of help from Kara and Steven Pritchard, who were in the booth several hours of every day, as well as a handful of other volunteers who we appreciate very much for their time. Attendees ranged from LPI Alumni to folks who were just checking out "this Linux thing." We were grateful to have a donated computer with connectivity to the LPI website, which allowed us to recruit participants in the Job Task Analysis Survey at http://www.lpi.org/cgi-bin/jass.py A few media representatives spoke with Dan York about the program, and we look forward to articles appearing over the next several weeks which call attention to the LPI program. Trade shows like LinuxWorld are a great opportunity to build awareness of the Linux Certification program LPI has developed, and we are pleased to participate with the help of our volunteers. LPI will be exhibiting at CeBit in Hanover, Germany March 22 - 26 in Hall 3, Stand C57, Booth C01 and we would be grateful for anyone interested in volunteering in the booth!" REPORT FROM THE PARIS LINUX EXPO - Feb 1st and 2nd Jerry Crick is one of our volunteers from the UK who helps with website maintenance, and he volunteered to go to the Paris show, and offer information on LPI for us. It looks like he had a good time, and the show was successful in many ways - according to Jerry; "we had a good trip visiting places like the Louvre, Musee d'Orsy, Arc de Triumph and Notre Dame as well as having several good meals" - sounds like he was working hard;) "I spoke to several people interested in taking the exams and understanding how the LPI certificate would benefit their careers. It is clear that many Europeans are v. keen on the Linux movement and approach - We need to say a bit more about the benefits of LPI exams to those who potentially will become certified - how it is better to get a cert which is cross distro and lasts forever unlike some others! The issue of how relevant an old certificate is - came up and I pointed out that nobody would expect to hire someone with an outdated cert and no recent experience." Thanks Jerry, for speaking for us at this event. If anyone else is interested in helping out at any conferences or shows, please contact us - info@lpi.org or wilma@lpi.org We hope you had an opportunity to visit LPI at one of the booths, in New York, Amsterdam or Paris. If not, we will be in Hanover in March and Chicago and Singapore in April 2001, we hope to see you there! - for details see http://www.lpi.org/i-events.html LPI CERTIFIED HIRING PRACTICES: We are looking to our friends and volunteers, our advisory council and supporters to help put in place a hiring practice at their company which will require any new Linux system admin. hires be LPI certified.
