Immediate Release MontaVista and Trolltech Join Forces: Embedded Linux and Graphical Toolkit Qt/Embedded and Hard Hat Linux to be Demonstrated at ESC- Spring SAN FRANCISCO, April 9, 2001, -- MontaVista Software Inc., the company powering the embedded revolution, and Trolltech AS have joined forces to create a comprehensive and integrated embedded Linux platform. Developers can see a demo of MontaVista's Hard Hat=81 Linux=AE bundled with Trolltech's Qt/Embedded at MontaVista's booth #122 at the Embedded Systems Conference in San Francisco, April 10 - 12. The demo will be running on a Compaq iPAQ that features a palmtop computing environment designed and built with Qt/Embedded. The new agreement combines Trolltech's Qt/Embedded development framework with MontaVista's Hard Hat Linux distribution in a comprehensive platform - OS, development framework, and embedded windowing system - for embedded systems developers. "The integration of Qt/Embedded with Hard Hat Linux creates a stable and predictable platform for embedded systems developers," said Eirik Eng, President of Trolltech. "They can develop for the MontaVista/Trolltech platform with confidence." Kevin Morgan, MontaVista's vice president of engineering, said "This alliance offers a complete embedded software solution that significantly decreases time to market and lowers total development costs. Bundling Qt/Embedded with our distribution creates a rich and resource-efficient development and run-time environment." Availability Hard Hat Linux 2.0 Professional Edition is available direct from MontaVista and MontaVista distribution channels worldwide as a product subscription, providing the MontaVista Hard Hat Linux kernel, utilities, development tools and one year of technical support. It is open source, royalty-free, and built from 100% pure Linux sources. Also available with Hard Hat Linux 2.0 Professional Edition are expanded add-on capabilities, including packages for embedded Java, High-Availability, legacy RTOS porting and emulation, and embedded GUI development. MontaVista will also make Hard Hat Linux 2.0 Journeyman Edition freely available for technical evaluation and other uses. A subset of Hard Hat Linux Professional Edition, it targets a sampling from all Hard Hat Linux CPU architectures and hosts on Red Hat Linux. It can be downloaded from MontaVista's Web site or obtained on CD-ROM for a nominal charge. Hard Hat Linux 2.0 Professional Edition will be available the last week of April 2001, and will be joined by additional functionality and add-on technologies within 30 days via on-line distribution and on CD-ROM. Trolltech's Qt/Embedded will be available on the Hard Hat Linux platform in May 2001. About MontaVista Software Inc.
