From: "Rick Collette"To: "Liz" Subject: deepLinux Package Manager Date: Fri, 13 Apr 2001 19:54:43 -0700 FYI: ---------------------SNiP!---------------------- PR DATE 04/14/2001: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE! DeepLinux Package Manager Now Available! “After numerous requests for packages for dL ExOp, we decided a package manager was NOT optional..” Mountain View, CA (April 14, 2001) – The deepLinux package manager is now available for download from the company website. This manager adds a much needed feature to the deepLinux line of Server OS’s, which is an easy way to add, remove, and build packages for use with deepLinux. “We’ve decided to adopt the Slackware Package Manager with only minor changes. The changes are mostly cosmetic in nature, but we felt we had to make them to keep the good people at Slack from being bothered with dL questions.” The package manager is most obviously based on SPM, but some of the changes made will make it easier for Unix Systems Administrators without a lot of experience in the Linux World. We’ve renamed them to fit Solaris (pkgadd vs. installpkg), and kept pretty much everything else the same for cross-compatibility with other Linux Distributions. ABOUT deepLinux DeepLinux was founded in March, 2000, as a software company focused on the Linux Community. Since then it has evolved into providing stable, secure Server Operating Systems.
