MontaVista and Netgem Announce Partnership to Promote Netgem’s Digital TV Software Platform Based on MontaVista’s Hard Hat Linux Operating System NEUILLY-SUR-SEINE, France, April 24, 2001 -– MontaVista Software, the company powering the embedded revolution, and Netgem, a leader in software platforms for interactive television, have announced a technical and marketing collaboration to integrate and promote Netgem’s interactive software platform for digital TV and MontaVista’s Hard Hat™ Linux. ®. The partnership provides for close co-operation on both technology and marketing fronts. In particular, it will enable the efficient and high quality integration of Netgem’s digital interactive TV software in the hardware platforms of both companies’ digital broadcasting and consumer electronics manufacturing customers. This co-operation will provide operators with two decisive technological and competitive advantages, Linux and open Internet technologies. Linux brings operators a very stable and adaptable open source operating system. Open and Internet technologies allow operators to reap the benefits of the availability and cost-effectiveness of Web content and applications. Patrice Commune, MontaVista's vice president of international operations, said, "This alliance offers a complete embedded software solution that significantly decreases time to market and lowers total development costs of new generation digital set-top boxes. Within the scope of ETSI’s DVB-MHP model, digital TV applications designers will benefit from MontaVista’s Hard Hat Linux for efficient management of multimedia streams, data, and hardware resources. The bundling of Hard Hat Linux within Netgem’s Unified Interactivity Software platform will lead to early and reliable delivery of the most advanced video broadcasting and interactive services." According to Joseph Haddad, Netgem’s CEO, “The partnership with MontaVista gives us the opportunity to focus all our resources on the heart of Netgem’s technology; our digital interactive software that unifies the best of digital video broadcasting and Internet technologies in the same platform.
