CMP MEDIA ANNOUNCES TECHNICAL PROGRAM
FOR EMBEDDED SYSTEMS CONFERENCE CHICAGO

Largest Educational Forum On Embedded Systems Outside of Silicon Valley
Includes Focus On Automotive, Industrial Systems, Connectivity

San Francisco - May 1, 2001 - CMP Media (Nasdaq: UNEWY) today announced
the program for the Embedded Systems Conference Chicago, the Midwest's
largest educational forum for embedded engineers, developers, and
managers. With a special focus on automotive and industrial applications,
the event's 90 classes and tutorials address the technical issues involved
in building intelligence into everyday devices.

Running from July 9-12, 2001 at the Navy Pier Festival Hall in Chicago,
Ill., the Embedded Systems Conference Chicago provides an opportunity for
design engineers to learn about the latest microprocessor, software, and
internetworking technologies and to meet with and hear from a faculty of 50
respected industry experts. Featured technologies include automotive,
real-time design, wireless, open source technologies, embedded Internet,
java, and unified modeling language.

"Embedded systems make products safer, more reliable, more energy efficient
and cost effective, and they provide increased functionality," said Lindsey
Vereen, conference director. "Embedded technologies are changing at a
rapid pace. The educational program at the Chicago event will help
software engineers and product designers integrate the very latest tools
for connectivity and deterministic performance into current projects."

The conference program begins on July 9 with eight full-day tutorials on
topics such as Java, TCP/IP, and C++. For the next three days,
hour-and-a-half sessions are offered on a broad range of topics, including
automotive related sessions, such as:
* Embedded Systems in the Automotive Industry,
* Controller Area Network (CAN)
* Topology Independence: Software Reuse Across Automotive Product Lines

The conference includes 15 classes that have never before been offered at
an Embedded Systems Conference, including:
* Implementing Bluetooth in an Embedded Device
* Putting Safety in Software
* Debugging Embedded Linux Device Drivers
* Home Networking with the Open Services Gateway Initiative
* Integrating Ethernet into Industrial Control

In addition to the conference program, ESC Chicago includes a two-day
product exhibition with 100 leading companies. Special events include a
keynote address by best-selling author, computer columnist, and TV
personality Robert X. Cringely, and early morning shop talk sessions where
attendees can discuss their successes and challenges in informal moderated
sessions. An opening night reception on the show floor celebrates "Summer
Nights on the Lake."
