In addition to the basic GNOME 1.4 stuff you find added stuff like the Red Carpet updater and Ximians MonkeyTalk support system. If you don't already have GNOME 1.4 installed run over to http://www.ximian.com to find out how to get their latest binaries. Thanks to Peter Teichman and the rest of the Ximian packaging team for their great work. ============================================================== 2) Gstreamer development streams ahead. -------------------------------------------------------------- The GStreamer team is making fantastic progress these days. New stuff is added to CVS at breathtaking speed. For instance during GUADEC Erik Walthinsen got togeether with aRts developer Stefan Westerfeld and added support for aRts plugins to GStreamer. Richard Boulton added an artsd output plugin to GStreamer so you can now output your GStreamer sound through the artsd sound server. Wim Taymans has made a aalib outplug plugin for GStreamer which means you can now easily watch all your movies in ascii-art: http://gstreamer.net/media/aalib.jpg Wim has also worked with Gergo Erdi (Cactus) to integrate Bonobo-media and gstreamer to give you a nice set of multimedia playback controls with Bonobo-interfaces. Bonobo-media homepage is found here: http://cactus.rulez.org/projects/bonobo-media/ Erik Walthinsen has also made a Firewire(1394) input plugin and a DV decoder plugin which means you can now import your digital camcorder movies with GStreamer. The full list of new stuff can be found here: http://www.abisource.com/release-notes/0.7.14-2.html For instance one long missing feature now added by Martin Sevior is header and footer support. In the quest to help you access all your documents and Applix filter is now in. And maybe most important of them all is the tons of bugs killed of by Jesper Skov in order to give you a more stable and usefull experience using Abiword. Of course the Abi team is not resting on their laurels, already new features have been put into CVS like support for multilanguage documents. This means that you can mark different paragraphs, words or whatever as different languages and Abiword will spellcheck them with the correct dictionary. ============================================================== 5) Gnumatic has made available their 1.5.6 release of Gnucash. -------------------------------------------------------------- This release is a major step forward for Gnucash since it their first feature frozen release on the way to the next stable release, Gnucash 1.6.0. A big thanks to Linas, Bill and the rest of the people at Gnumatic for this great application. This means you can now really start to use them to configure your settings. They do need more bug-testing though so if you can deal with a little breakage don't hesitate to help them out, they would really appreciate it. You find XST in GNOME CVS. ============================================================== 8) GNOME Accessibility list launched -------------------------------------------------------------- The GNOME Accesibility project headed by our friends at Sun now has its own mailing list. If you are interested in Accessibility in GNOME this might very well be the mailing list for you. Expect for 0.9 to be released sometime this week. You find the latest Mozilla release at: http://www.mozilla.org ============================================================== 10) New maintainers of GNOME summaries -------------------------------------------------------------- Since Havoc Pennington is to busy these days to put togheter the GNOME summarieshas he decided to pass on the torch. So from last week and onwards the responsibility for the GNOME Summaries will be shared between myself (Christian Schaller) and Steve George. Each of us will do the summary every other week, and of course try to cover for eachother during vacations etc. We hope that this arrangement will enable us to keep the summaries coming out on a weekly basis. As you might know Nautilus supports vector-graphics icons in the SVG format. Currently though we have no good theme utilizing that option, so the request goes out to the community to make one. The first one to supply us with a good looking SVG icon theme for Nautilus will get a honorable mentioning in the GNOME Summaries. Technical questions about the SVG support in Nautilus can be asked either on the Nautilus mailinglist http://lists.eazel.com/mailman/listinfo/nautilus-list or in #Nautilus at irc.gnome.org. ============================================================== 12) New and Updated Software -------------------------------------------------------------- Gnomermind - GnomerMind is a configurable and attractive looking MasterMind-type puzzle game rubrica - Is an addressbook application Tenes Empanadas Graciela - is a clone of ``Plan Táctico y Estratégico de la Guerra``, which is a pseudo-clone of Risk, a multiplayer turn-based strategy game. gThumb - Image viewer and browser Gtkdial - is a GNOME frontend to the wvdial intelligent PPP dialer Firestarter - is a complete firewall tool for Linux machines. vlc - (VideoLAN Client) is a DVD and MPEG player for Gnome or Gtk+. gramps - is a GNOME/Python based genealogy program. B-Chat - chat client for use with Yahoo! Chat. statistic - program of statistics EtherApe - is a network monitor modeled after etherman with ethernet, ip and tcp modes. glame - (GNU/Linux Audio Mechanics) is targeted to be the GIMP for audio processing. Sybase - Query Graphical SQL client for Sybase enterprise servers. Latest changes: Add/Edit tables add/Drop indexes Gtktimid - A little interface for timidity gedit - Lightweight text editor with support for all your standard editing features, plus several not found in your average text editor - plugins being the most notable of these. GConf-- - C++ wrappers for GConf, particularly GConfClient, for use with Gtk-- quickedit - Quickedit is simple and fast sound editor for Gnome, it can edit WAV and MP3 files. g2c - translates GladeXML to a set of modular C files. IceWM - is a X11 window manager coded from scratch in C++ for performance and size. Pro Forma - is a GUI tool that lets you fill out forms on your computer like you would with a typewriter. linphone - a web-phone. It lets you make two-party phone calls using an IP network such as the internet. As it uses a very minimal implementation of the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) in orde Glom - is a GUI that allows you to design MySQL table definitions and the relationships between them. It also allows you to edit and search the data in those tables Gnome Toaster - CD creation suite using cdrecord,cdrdao,cdda2wav,mkisofs. Pharmacy - intends to be a GNOME compliant front-end to CVS gcompris - is a simple education game. The basic goal is to teach to children starting at 3 how to use a mouse and keybord. Guikachu - is a GNOME application for graphical editing of resource files for PalmOS-based pocket computers Bakery C++ - Framework for creating GNOME applications using Gnome- - and Gtk--. Gnome-- - is a powerful C++ binding for the GNOME libraries. gping - is a small Gnome applet which pings a host and displays the RTT (round trip time) of the ICMP package. gob - is GTK+ Object Builder, a preprocessor for making GTK+ objects easily.
