PROPRIETARY RTOS TO EMBEDDED LINUX

SUNNYVALE, Calif. May 8, 2001 MontaVista Software Inc., the company
powering the embedded revolution, is sponsoring four half-day seminars for
embedded software developers in California, the Midwest and Canada. The
seminars, entitled ³Moving from a Proprietary RTOS to Embedded Linux,² will
be held at the Santa Clara Hilton in Santa Clara, Calif., on Thursday, May
24; at the Irvine Hilton in Irvine, Calif., on Thursday, May 31; in Chicago
on Tuesday, June 5; and in Toronto on Thursday, June 7. All seminar times
are from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

According to market research firm, Venture Development Corporation, the
worldwide market for embedded software solutions will reach $1.8 billion by
2003. VDC also predicts the number of embedded developers adopting Linux as
their host environment of choice will triple within two years.

The ³Moving from a Proprietary RTOS to Embedded Linux² seminars will feature
demonstrations of embedded systems that have already been developed by
MontaVista and its partners using MontaVista¹s award-winning Hard Hat
Linux® development environment.

MontaVista recently announced Hard Hat Linux, Version 2.0, the first
embedded operating system and development tool suite based on the new Linux
2.4 kernel. HHL 2.0 boasts unrivaled development support for embedded
processor architectures, CPU boards and software components, with more than
480 fully tested and supported combinations. The feature-rich release
enables a wide variety of embedded applications, providing a standard
platform for designs in communications infrastructure, networking, consumer
electronics, instrumentation and control.

All seminar attendees are eligible to enter a drawing to win a free embedded
development kit that includes MontaVista¹s Hard Hat Linux 2.0, Journeyman
