Latest release further accelerates HOOPS performance and introduces HOOPS
Net Server
Oakland, CA ľ May 08 , 2001ľ Tech Soft America (TSA), the leading provider
of core graphics component technology to the CAD/CAM/CAE industry, announces
the immediate availability of the HOOPS 3D Application Framework
(HOOPS/3dAF) v6.0. This release includes significant graphics performance
and functionality enhancements, major extensions to the complementary HOOPS
Streaming Toolkit (HOOPS/Stream), and introduces TSA’s latest product, the
HOOPS Net Server (HOOPS/Net). This newest module enables developers to add
collaborative functionality to an existing application or create real-time
collaborative or client/server applications.

HOOPS/3dAF is an extensible, high-level component that dramatically
simplifies the design, development and maintenance of high-performance,
interactive 2D/3D applications for Windows, UNIX, LINUX and the Web. The
backbone of the 3D Application Framework, HOOPS/3dGS, is the core graphics
component in over 125 commercial applications from companies such as
SolidWorks, PTC, SDRC, Fluent, Mechanical Dynamics, CADKEY, Tecoplan, COADE,
Infrasoft and PAM Systems.

Major features and enhancements in HOOPS/3dAF v6.0 include:

Lightweight Library Options.  Developers may now compile custom, lightweight
versions of the HOOPS/3dGS libraries, which are optimized for size and may
exclude certain unneeded functionality. This is particularly useful for
developers creating lightweight applications or plug-ins where download size
is critical and the full power and functionality of HOOPS may not be
required.

CAE Enhancements.  Adding to HOOPS’ rich feature set for analysis
applications, developers now have the choice of using texture memory for
rendering color-index interpolated models, which can result in performance
gains of up to 1000%. In addition, full support for creating contour (ISO)
lines has been added.

Rendering Performance. Several new optimizations have been implemented to
further increase HOOPS’ overall rendering performance, particularly when
using the OpenGL rendering pipeline.

Realistic Rendering Options.  Support for environment mapping has been added
to HOOPS, enabling models to be rendered as if objects had truly reflective
properties. In addition, sample code is now provided to help developers add
shadows to their scene for more realistic rendering.

Text Handling. Additional text control functionality has been added,
including support for multi-line text and text greeking.

Python Language Bindings.  Developers using the Python language may now take
advantage of the HOOPS/3dGS.

Model/View Library Additions.  Numerous new objects have been added to the
HOOPS Model View Operator (HOOPS/MVO) Library for functionality such as
Object Clashing, Hidden Text Removal Rendering, NaviCube navigation, NURBS
Curve Generation, Axis Triad creation, Shadows, Model Fly-Through, Timed
frame rate rendering logic and more.

New Platform Support.  Solaris 2.8 and 64bit OS are now officially
supported.

Customer Requested Features. Hundreds of additional customer-requested
features, improvements and enhancements have been added.

With this 6.0 release the HOOPS/Stream has been fully decoupled from
HOOPS/3dAF and made into a fully independent HSFImport/Export toolkit with
advanced compression features and added intelligence. Though included in a
license of HOOPS/3dAF, HOOPS/Stream may now be more easily used within
applications which do not use HOOPS/3dAF as their core graphics subsystem.

A new product, HOOPS Net Server (HOOPS/Net) is also now shipping along with
HOOPS/3dAF 6.0. HOOPS/Net is a server component which greatly facilitates
the development of real-time collaborative applications. HOOPS/Net may be
used to extend existing applications to include collaborative capabilities
or as a complementary module along with HOOPS/3dAF and HOOPS/Stream for a
complete development solution.
