Foresight Systems v5.1 Released for Linux & Windows 2000
Expanded Platform Support and New Features Added to Foresight
System Design and HW/SW Co-Design tools.

(Anaheim, CA and Austin, TX) March 2001 – Foresight Systems,
Inc. today announced release v5.1 of their premier product
including support for Linux, Windows NT, Windows 2000, and
Solaris. The Foresight system design and HW/SW co-design
tools automate the systems engineering process for systems
designs ranging from System-on-a-Chip through the complete
avionics system in modern aircraft. Delivery can be arranged
through any Foresight sales office.

In addition to broadened platform support, the v5.1 release
adds important new capabilities to the Foresight product
family. Foresight can now generate design documentation
directly to Microsoft Word's RTF (Rich Text Format).
Customers have recently started requesting compatibility with
Microsoft Word as more designers migrate to a PC platform.
Foresight Systems, Inc. has for 5 years offered their FS/DOC
product that generates design documentation to the Adobe
FrameMaker format. Both versions are now available.

Another new addition in v5.1 is support for hierarchical state
machines. The Foresight tool has long stood above its
competition because of its ability to model and simulate a
mixture of design paradigms in the same simulation. For
example, data flow, state machines, and control can all be
modeled and simulated together. The new v5.1 release builds
on this capability by allowing designers to combine complex
state machines with data flow and control.

V5.1 also extends the Foresight Mini-spec language (one of
several powerful ways to specify behavior) with VHDL syntax
and operators. Sensitivity lists, output scheduling
operators, and other standard VHDL language characteristics
improve the designer's modeling productivity by making the
language more convenient and expressive. As with previous
versions of Foresight, there are a variety of ways provided to
allow the inclusion of models developed in other languages
such as VHDL, Verilog, C, and C++.

With today’s complex systems designs, a large number of people
become involved early in the system design and specification
process. These product stakeholders have computers ranging
from laptops to powerful UNIX workstations, and all of them
need to collaborate and communicate using Foresight. With
release 5.1, Foresight is adding support for Linux and Windows
2000 to their existing support for Windows NT and Solaris.
These platforms can be mixed and matched as needed allowing
everyone to use Foresight from their desktop.

Paul Stoaks, Foresight’s VP of Engineering, stated, "We're
very excited about the benefit that the v5.1 release will
deliver to the system design community. We have added new
capabilities that improve the design and modeling experience
while significantly improving reliability and performance.
Adding support for the Linux platform provides our customers
with a high performance, low cost workstation option. With
this and future releases, we intend to firmly establish
Foresight as the system design environment of choice."

Foresight’s strategic partner, Motorola, received the first
delivery of the new release. Motorola’s investment last year
in Foresight Systems assured them that they would have first
access to Foresight’s cutting-edge design tools.
