MOTOROLA'S SM56 SOFTWARE MODEM
RECEIVES RED HAT READY CERTIFICATION LOGO

Linux-based Modem Solution Supports Low-Cost PC Communications
and Provides Next-Generation Platform for Embedded Devices

Mansfield, Mass., May 14, 2001 - Motorola, Inc.'s (NYSE: MOT)
Software Products Division (SPD), a leading communications supplier
to PC OEMs, today announced its SM56 PCI II Software Modem has
received the Red Hat Ready Certification Logo and is part of Red
Hat's Certified Partner Program. Motorola's SM56 PCI II Software
Modem met Red Hat's stringent testing requirements to ensure complete
interoperability within the Linux environment. Such interoperability
enables a best-of-breed platform for client/server environments,
leading the way for new communications-intensive applications such as
file and e-commerce servers, alternative PCs, home gateways and
set-top boxes.

According to industry analyst firm IDC, Linux continues to be the
most rapidly growing server operating system worldwide. The Linux OS
enables Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to benefit from lower
hardware support costs and the ability to avoid common obsolescence
factors, while offering developers the ability to modify open source
modules for customized applications. Motorola's software modem
technology offers OEMs the added benefit of significant cost savings
over hardware modem implementations, while providing end users with
the convenience of a software-upgradeable modem solution.

"Our Red Hat Ready certification further solidifies SPD's software
communications technology as an established choice for PC and
embedded OEMs," said Mike Tramontano, director of marketing for
Motorola's Software Products Division. "By working with such
industry leaders as Red Hat, SPD is enabling a new generation of
products and applications for the personal communications market."

The Red Hat Certified Partner Program is intended for commercial
application vendors who are porting, or have ported, their
applications to the Red Hat Linux operating system. As the number of
Linux applications and users grow, Red Hat is committed to partnering
with companies such as Motorola to assure end-user satisfaction and
retention, as well as fully interoperable industry solutions.
Motorola's Linux driver appears on the Red Hat Linux 7.1 Linux
Applications CD Deluxe version, which commenced shipping on April 23,
2001.
