Hammel (root-icons in Gnome) Date: Tue, 22 May 2001 04:24:45 +0200 mmhm, Well, its actually quite easy to rid yourself of the root-icons in Gnome. pop up a Gmc / Nautilus window (whichever is managing your desktop) then Execute it (there's an "Exit" in the menu;) next, launch a console, try for gmc, --nowindows No windows opened at startup --nodesktop No desktop icons ( according to gmc --help) and with Nautilus it is --no-desktop and nautilus -q to kill it (or the cleanup script) after that, just tell gnome to save your session and it ought to be nice and clean. Another "hint" is to disable all those pesky icons on menus, drops loading time a whole bit for most things ;) mmhm, well, thats' about it from me, over and out and HTH. //Spider
