Several security holes have been discovered and fixed in the kernel
packages. Please update the packages in your installation as soon as
possible.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________

1. Problem Summary

   a. Ptrace/execve race condition

An attacker can manipulate a setuid process that uses ptrace,
thereby allowing root access. This problem was thought to have
been fixed in a previous kernel patch, but apparently it was not.

   b. Sysctl() Kernel Information Leakage Vulnerability

      From the Securityfocus.com advisory, #2364:

The sysctl() call allows a privileged program to read or write
kernel parameters. However, underprivileged programs can utilize
this function call because the call will accept signed values. Hence,
it is possible for an attacker to reach below the threshold memory
address set for system security by supplying negative values. This
would enable him to browse kernel information, potentially giving
      him administrative access.

   c. binfmt_misc

binfmt_misc touched user pages directly and could be exploited.

   d. CPIA driver

An off by one buffer check in the CPIA driver allowed users to
      scribble into kernel memory

   e. CPUID and MSR drivers

Unloading and reloading these could cause a crash due to missing
unregister calls. Normally not exploitable but if set to autoload
and unload they could be abused.

   f. Classifier

Fix a possible hang in the classifier code.

   g. get/setsockopt

Mishandling of sign bits in setsockopt and getsockopt allowed
      local DoS and other attacks.

   h. SYS5 shared memory

A code path existed where the shm code would scribble on very
recently freed memory. It is not clear that this was actually
      exploitable.

   i. User access asm bug on x86

Certain obscure constant copies came out copying the wrong number
of bytes. No known exploit or actual problem case is known but it
      potentially existed.

   j. UDP Deadlock

A local user could deadlock the kernel due to bugs in UDP port
      allocation.

2. Solution

Update each package from our ftp server by running the following
  command:

  rpm -Uvh ftp_path_to_filename

  Where ftp_path_to_filename is the following:

Note: Please update the packages in the order listed below:

ftp://ftp.turbolinux.com/pub/updates/6.0/security/kernel-BOOT-2.2.18-10.3.i386.rpm
ftp://ftp.turbolinux.com/pub/updates/6.0/security/kernel-doc-2.2.18-10.3.i386.rpm

ftp://ftp.turbolinux.com/pub/updates/6.0/security/kernel-2.2.18-10.3.i386.rpm

The source RPM can be downloaded here:

ftp://ftp.turbolinux.com/pub/updates/6.0/SRPMS/kernel-2.2.18-10.3.src.rpm

**Note: You must rebuild and install the RPM if you choose to download
and install the SRPM. Simply installing the SRPM alone WILL NOT CLOSE
  THE SECURITY HOLE.

Please verify the MD5 checksums of the updates before you install:

These packages are GPG signed by Turbolinux for security. Our key
is available here:

 http://www.turbolinux.com/security/tlgpgkey.asc

To verify a package, use the following command:

 rpm --checksig name_of_rpm

To examine only the md5sum, use the following command:

 md5sum name_of_rpm

**Note: Checking GPG keys requires RPM 3.0 or higher.
