Subject: Dr. Dobb's Tcl-URL! - weekly Tcl news and links (Jul 23)
Date: Mon, 23 Jul 2001 11:46:27 -0500 (CDT)
Quote of the week, courtesy of Jeff Hobbs in one of many replies to
many questions this week in comp.lang.tcl on using threads with Tcl:
"Of course, when you need threads, you need threads (just make
sure you need threads)."
Feeling insecure? Perhaps you should be. Linux Weekly News posted a
security alert against Tcl's default runtime library search path:

Parlez-vous français? David Zolli announces "Le Portail tcl/tk
Francophon", a tcl/tk portal for our French-speaking friends. Read the
announcement, or just jump straight to the site.

Activestate starts delivering the goods with the release of ActiveTcl

Has Tcllib reached the 1.0 milestone? Thane Reaver askes the question
in comp.lang.tcl, and offers congratulatory back-patting. Although
Tcllib 1.0 isn't yet available on sourceforge, the aforementioned
ActiveTcl 8.3.3.2 release notes lists Tcllib 1.0 as part of the
ActiveTcl release.

BWidgets finally has an official distribution at sourceforge, with
some bug fixes thrown in for good measure. Here's the announcement,
and a link to the sourceforge project. The third link is to a thread
on comp.lang.tcl titled "Bwidget Experiences?", which might be useful
if you are thinking about using BWidgets.

Paul Welton announced the availability of the TSIPP Workbench.
According to the announcement, "The TSIPP Workbench is an
interactive program which allows 3D images, animations, and Tk
widgets to be created using TSIPP, a graphical toolkit developed
by Mark Diekhans.". Sounds cool to me.
