TOTAL IMPACT____________________________________________ 295 Willis Ave., Suite E Camarillo, CA 93010 805.987.8704 | Fax: 805.484.9469 www.totalimpact.com | power@totalimpact.com July 24, 2001 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Contact Vicki Janaky, Innovisions Marketing and Communications, (818) 762-2118, or Gabriella Rodriquez, Total Impact, (805) 987-8704 TOTAL IMPACT ANNOUNCES "CENTRICITY" RENDER ENGINE Camarillo, CA; Total Impact today announced availability of the new "Centricity" line of affordable, scalable render engines, which are expected to revolutionize high performance computing with their small size, high processing speeds, low power requirements and ease of use. Centricity systems in beta testing with leading animation houses set records for rendering speed and energy efficiency. NOITAMINANIMATION tested the equipment, finding typical speed and performance improvements of more than 30% over existing systems when used with 3Delight, a Renderman compliant software. Another comparison showed a 90 frame RIB file rendering took less than one minute on an eight-briQ Centricity system, (each equipped with a 400MHz PowerPC G4 and 3Delight software), while a similar 90 frame animation rendering took 23 hours on a PowerMac G4 733 under OS9 (with RenderMan compliant software). Jason Belec, NOITAMINANIMATION senior vice president and chief technology officer, found Centricity¹s performance exceptional. "Centricity is without a doubt the most effective solution available. If Renderman compliancy and speed for the money are your requirements, then Centricity is your product," said Belec. "Centricity systems are designed to be the ultimate scalable computer solution. The systems start with four computing engines, and can be increased in multiples of eight into the hundreds. They provide an excellent opportunity for growing businesses to start small and scale upward as needed," said Total Impact CEO Glenn Churchman. The foundation for Centricity, the "briQ", is a stand-alone computing engine which functions as a network appliance and is based on the PowerPC microprocessor. Each briQ operates in base form at 20 watts and weighs only 32 ounces, the size of a CD-ROM drive. The internal design for Centricity and its Linux based operating system allow it to perform processing at a level of performance not seen before in a computer this size. Centricity can be integrated into any network. Centricity utilizes RISC processor architecture and is available with either a PowerPC 750 (G3) or 7400 (G4) and with Motorola¹s AltiVec” technology. It interfaces easily with any system and application utilizing RenderMan” compliant software. Centricity is configured in parallel and in a single case. The parallel capability is managed by Centricity and does not require user expertise in hardware configuration. Parallel computing was previously the domain of large companies using high-end super computers. Now it is available at remarkably affordable levels, making it accessible for all. The small size of Centricity means that large numbers can be installed in small spaces and there is little need for additional cooling or support personnel, making them "Plug and Play" pieces of equipment. Total Impact is currently shipping Centricity units specifically designed for the animation industry. These products are sized to meet the needs of small to medium companies and group users, and can be scaled for large corporations into the hundreds. Customizable Centricity packages are available for large companies and users with intensive rendering requirements. … The Centricity 4 offers a powerful network farm of four briQs for the intermediate level user. … The Centricity 8 offers a more powerful network farm in speed and processing with an eight briQ system … The Ultimate Scaling Solution Network farms can be developed in multiples of eight into the hundreds, easily, efficiently and economically. Total Impact designs, manufactures and markets innovative computer solutions for use in commercial applications and high performance systems.
