Subject: Base System release critical bug status III
Date:	 Wed, 8 Aug 2001 18:21:29 +1000

Hello world,

Things still remaining before we can move onto the next phase of the
freeze:

 	* All the bugs listed below need to be fixed

 	* Any of alpha, mips, mipsel, s390, sh or hurd-i386
 	  that want to release need to upload a current version of
 	  boot-floppies (3.0.8 at the time of writing), and post an
 	  installation report to the debian-testing@lists.debian.org list.

The deadlines from the last mail were August 4th, which was last
week.

Since the last status update, we've got hppa and ia64 partially
integrated into woody, and we've got legal advice about the crypto in main
issue. Both these need a little more work before they're complete though.
There hasn't been much progress on the RC base bugs though.

Currently open RC bugs against base packages are: (by source package)

APT Development Team <deity@lists.debian.org>
	apt 97364 open grave
 		apt-cdrom needs support for woody CD's. Can be fixed by
 		making apt-cdrom complain less, or worked removing the
 		woody-secured tree from woody CD'db2 106082 open grave
		--> woody CD's will generate their own Packages/Release files
	apt 107362 open serious
	apt 107395 open grave sid
		apt frequently doesn't work at all
		--> rumoured to be fixed in apt cvs

Yann Dirson <dirson@debian.org>
	console-common 107700 open grave
		some sort of upgrading bug; maintainer can't reproduce
		--> Needs to be investigated and/or downgraded

Ben Collins <bcollins@debian.org>
 	db2 106082 open grave
 	db2 106663 open grave
 		db2 not backwards compatible, breaks potato packages on
 		partial upgrades
		--> ?

Mark Baker <mbaker@iee.org>
	exim 106659 open serious
		exim needs to mkdir /etc/exim in preinst on upgrades
		--> simple fix, NMU?

Ben Collins <bcollins@debian.org>
	glibc 100336 forwarded serious
		Signal handling breaks zsh on hppa. Needs to be fixed by
		hppa people; zsh will be removed from hppa if unfixed; will
		not delay freeze.
		--> Freeze unaffected
	glibc 107062 open serious sid
		Ben and Branden having a flamewar. Freeze doesn't seem to be
		affected.
		--> Freeze unaffected

Colin Watson <cjwatson@debian.org>
	groff 107788 open serious
		HTML driver broken
		--> Version in testing is okay, freeze unaffected

Wichert Akkerman <wakkerma@debian.org>
	modutils 106933 open critical
		modutils broken on ppc
		--> patch in bugreport, NMU?

Randolph Chung <tausq@debian.org>
	tasksel 103773 open grave
		tasksel tasks include some task- packages. Can be fixed after
		base freeze.
		--> Freeze unaffected for the moment

modutils and exim probably should be NMUed by QA, apt appears to just
need a maintainer upload, db2 needs some investigation and a fix to be
worked out (urgently), and console-common could use some investigation.

Cheers,
aj
